Potomac

Named for the river, Potomac MD sits outside of Bethesda and Rockville, MD and is about a 30+ minute drive into downtown DC.  It occupies roughly 25 square miles of land and has a population of about 46,000 residents.  It’s an extremely affluent suburb where the median income in 2011 was over $240,000.  The main intersection in Potomac is at River and Falls Roads.

Potomac is possibly best defined by its residents.  Lynda Carter of Wonder Women fame calls it home.  Eunice and Sargent Shriver (Maria’s parents) lived there forever.  Miss Teen USA from 2010 is from Potomac.  That’s gotta count for something.  And I think Mike Tyson lived there for a while, though I don’t see him on any of the lists lately.

As you drive along River Road, large, sprawling estates can be found in abundance.  It has a bit of a horsey feel to it.

Resident children attend a variety of schools.  While it seems like the vast majority attend Churchill HS, some also reside within the Wootton, Whitman and Richard Montgomery clusters.
