3842 Legation St NW Sears “Maywood”* 1925 Permit names R.C Hunter and Keystone Co. as architect and Keystone Co. as builder 📷 *The 5 suspected Chevy Chase “Maywoods”, while perfect matches to the Sears catalog model, have so far not been authenticated. None of them mentions Sears Roebuck in the historic building permits. They were all built in the same year by a local builder, Keystone Co., before Sears started carrying the model (in 1926). The design (by New York architects R.C. Hunter & Bros.) was also published as the “Cedars” by the National Home Builders Society in 1923:  National Home Builders Society in 1923: (https://archive.org/stream/homebuilder00natirich#page/86/mode/2up  Hunter’s original design showed different dormers. The 5 Chevy Chase houses on the other hand are consistent with the flat top/shed dormers that Sears adopted.
