Yesterday’s Devastating Fire in Chevy Chase — Here Is What You Can Do To Help

Destroyed homes in RCFThe fire at Round Hill Apartments in Chevy Chase’s Rock Creek Forest neighborhood yesterday  displaced more than 20 families from their homes. Here are some suggestions of how you can help:

[From the B-CC listserv] Many of you have expressed a desire to help B-CC families affected by
> yesterday’s fire at the Round Hill Apartment complex (near Rock Creek
> Forest Elementary School). A number of these families do have
> children in our cluster schools, and their losses have been
> significant.
> A box has been placed in the B-CC main office where you may drop off a
> check or gift cards that will be used to help these students and their
> families. Please limit the gift cards to Giant, Safeway, CVS, or
> Target (a $25 or $50 amount would be most useful). There are two
> other ways to make a contribution: either by writing a check to the
> “American Red Cross” or to the “B-CC PTSA” with “Round House Families
> Aid” written in the memo line. The B-CC administration and guidance
> office will ensure that gift cards and cash contributions are safely
> delivered to the families in need. I will forward checks made to the
> American Red Cross to the office helping these families.

Donations may be mailed to B-CC PTSA, Attn: Round House Families Aid,
4301 East-West Highway, Bethesda, MD 20814
> ** Donations to the Red Cross may also be made on-line at
> This enables the Red Cross to purchase
> necessary items and provide families with cash cards to take care of
> emergency needs, etc. (While donations may be earmarked for the Round
> Hill fire, the Red Cross would be grateful to receive funds without
> such designation as they are required to return those funds if not
> used.)
> ** Donations of Furniture and House-hold goods will also be needed.
> -The Red Cross will be working with A Wider Circle to coordinate
> furniture donations to families as they move into new/temporary
> housing. A Wider Circle would greatly benefit from donations of sofas,
> tables, chairs, kitchen items, dressers and mattresses. Toiletries and
> food would also be put to good use. All must be in ‘dignity’
> condition. To arrange a pick up, or
> call 301-608-3504.
> Thank you for your concern and support for our neighbors.
